How Does an Ohio ARISE Intervention Work?

Most people have heard of an intervention, which is meant to help guide and encourage alcoholics and drug addicts to seek treatment for their addiction. There are several models of interventions, one of which is the ARISE model. How does it work and how does it differ from other intervention models?
What Is an ARISE Intervention?
ARISE – which stands for A Relational Intervention Sequence for Engagement – is a type of research-based intervention that uses the power of the addict’s family to attain the goal of helping both the addict and the family achieve long-term recovery and healing. ARISE intervention models invite addicts participating in the journey toward recovery to be involved in the process right from the very beginning through to full recovery.
This type of intervention differs from a traditional intervention in that there are no surprises. Rather than friends and family organizing the intervention and staging it without the knowledge of the addict, an ARISE intervention involves the addict right from the get-go with no secrets or coercion. Using an interventionist who is trained and certified in this particular method, addicts can achieve success in recovery.
ARISE interventions involve three phases. However, it is not necessary for addicts to go through every phase if they are able to achieve success without participating in every level. The levels involved are as follows:
Level 1 – This level is known as “The First Call” and begins with the call to an interventionist by a friend or family member of the addict. A telephone conversation will take place whereby the family is guided to gather up a network of supportive individuals who will help point the addict toward participating in the first ARISE intervention meeting.
Level 2 – Referred to as the “Strength in Numbers” level, this phase takes place if the addict does not accept help in Level 1. The individuals recruited in the first level – known as “The Intervention Network” – serve as the Family Board of Directors and attempt to convince the addicted individual to get help in a loving and supportive manner without coercion. It can take a number of meetings in Level 2 to get the addict into Ohio addiction treatment, with approximately 80 percent of addicts entering Ohio drug rehab after anywhere between two to five meetings.
Level 3 – If the addict does not accept treatment after the first or second level, “The Formal ARISE” will take place. At this point, addicts will likely be prepared to enter treatment. It is at this particular meeting where addicts are informed of significant ramifications that will be put in place if help is not accepted. This can include family members kicking them out of the house, taking away their car, taking away their cell phone, or not giving them any more money. ARISE interventions are known to be highly effective, with 83 percent of addicts accepting help by the end of Level 3.
Intervention is Just the First Step to Recovery
Getting an addict to accept treatment is a huge step in the right direction, but it is just the first step in a long journey. Once addicts agree to enter Ohio drug rehab, the real work begins.
Addicts will first enter a detox program to safely and effectively rid their body of the toxins they have been consuming. Following detox, addicts will be a part of an intensive rehabilitative program where they will have the benefit of participating in group therapy, one-on-one therapy sessions with a counselor, or have a medication management program administered.
With hard work, dedication, and motivation, there is little reason why addicts cannot achieve success in an Ohio drug rehab program.
